What membership offers
A specialist trade body for concrete transport. CORE for qualifying members. Guidance written for the drum. Not a generic HGV badge.
Membership rates
Annual membership. Invoiced by Concrete Transport Association Limited. No VAT. Band is what you are in the market — not how many discs sit on one licence.

- Membership is a contract with Concrete Transport Association Limited. It does not issue an operator licence, a Driver CPC, or a fitness-to-drive decision.
- CORE is included with independent, larger-SME and national haulier membership. It is issued to the firm, not a person ticket. Templates do not discharge the operator’s health and safety or work-equipment duties.
- A manufacturer receives CORE only if that firm also controls haulage. A manufacturer who also runs a national fleet is classified as national, not stacked. Associates do not vote CORE.
- Partner days, when they are run, are awareness, not formal instruction. Not Driver CPC unless a licensed centre has filed that course. Members have expert advice when they need it.
- These prices are the association charge only. Counted courses and inspections are separate and are not on this page.
What membership includes
A specialist trade body
The UK association dedicated to concrete transport. We work with DVSA Enforcement Policy on mixer-maintenance talks and with police and commercial-vehicle-unit partners on mixer-awareness days. We also sit on the BSI committee for BS EN 12609:2021 (truck mixers — safety requirements). BCTA is the subject-matter expert representing BSI on the CEN working group for that standard. Membership puts your operation in that conversation.
It is not a generic HGV badge. Operator licensing and professional competence stay with the licence holder and the nominated transport manager.
BCTA CORE
CORE is operator recognition for members. Practical policies and procedures written for the drum and the yard. Issued to the firm, not to a person. Completing CORE does not issue an operator licence or a Driver CPC and does not replace the operator’s own duties. Included with independent, larger-SME and national haulier membership.
CORE is a BCTA scheme. Completing it is not recognition, approval or endorsement by DVSA, a Traffic Commissioner, HSE or the police. BCTA is not a regulator.
About COREThe standard pack
Members receive the current BCTA pack as documents to adapt, not as a finished safety system: Mixer Checks and Safety in Every Turn; off-site disposal of concrete wash water; RIDDOR highway-spill alert; specialist-body check toolbox talk; Concrete Haulage Standards briefing.
Concrete wash water is highly alkaline (typically pH 12–13) and may contain Chromium VI (CrVI). Both the Environment Agency and HSE classify it as posing risks due to potential chemical burns, skin sensitisation, and environmental harm.
A checklist helps you evidence a system. It is not a thorough examination and it is not a substitute for a competent person inspecting drum mounts, fasteners and ancillary equipment.
Council and working groups
Members in good standing may apply to Council and to the working groups. Applications are considered under the company’s constitution. The groups: Concrete Haulage Standards; Training; Maintenance; Manufacturer. Practical rooms. Not a place to discuss rates.
Associate members do not hold a CORE vote. Individual supporter members do not hold a CORE vote and do not sit on Council.
Apply for a seatToolbox talks and staying current
Members are invited to current-practice toolbox talks and member sessions when they are run. Awareness sessions point to official guidance. They do not claim Driver CPC hours and they do not assess anyone. Counted driver days and transport-manager programmes sit behind a separate application with a licensed centre. Current-practice months at the start of the mixer competence pathway are included for members and sponsored leavers — details on application.
Trainer and assessor pathway
Members can apply to deliver mixer awareness and to assess specialist competence under the association standard. Specialist Transport & Logistics Awards, a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee, accredits the course family through The Competence Academy. BCTA holds the haulage-layer standard. Working toward a trainer unit or an assessor award is a development status. It is not appointment.
Partner days
When BCTA hosts or is invited to mixer-maintenance or mixer-awareness days with DVSA Enforcement Policy or police and commercial-vehicle-unit partners, members are the first to be offered places, subject to the host’s capacity and rules. Awareness, not formal instruction. Not Driver CPC unless a licensed centre has filed that course. Members also have expert advice when they need it.
Wellbeing

What membership is not
A second Driver CPC. A substitute for the nominated transport manager’s statutory qualification. A DVSA, Traffic Commissioner or HSE endorsement. A structural inspection of the mixer. A guarantee of a seat on every official partner course. A finished health and safety system.
